The State Rooftop Solar Attractiveness Index (SARAL) was launched by Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy (IC) RK Singh on August 21, 2019.
Karnataka has topped the SARAL index.
Other states Telangana, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh were ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
Earlier Background-
Union Renewable Energy Ministry has set the target of achieving 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022, of which 100 GW solar power will be operational by March 2022 and 40 GW is expected to come from grid-connected solar rooftops.
